On Mission With Us

On Mission with Us

Here at the SMI Funds, we strive to earn great long-term returns for our shareholders. But our ultimate goal goes beyond just helping you have more. Our hope is that in helping you have more, you'll be able and willing to turn around and give more to those who are less fortunate.

In that spirit, we like to partner with the shareholders of the SMI Funds in giving challenges. The challenges are structured as matching events: the more you give, the more we match — and together, the more good work we see accomplished.

We invite you to join us in making a tangible difference in the world through these giving challenges. While there aren’t any giving challenges going on right now, click the links below to find out about past challenges SMI shareholders have participated in.

Compassion International

Sponsoring children in need - breaking the cycle of poverty.

Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults. Founded by the Rev. Everett Swanson in 1952, Compassion began providing Korean War orphans with food, shelter, education and health care, as well as Christian training. Today, Compassion helps more than 1.3 million children in 26 countries.

SMI's Compassion Challenge Met — 100 Children Released From Poverty!

Thanks to the generosity of SMI Fund investors, 100 children have been sponsored through the SMI Compassion Challenge. SMI Advisory Services is now sponsoring 50 children, matching the sponsorships initiated by fund investors during the challenge period.

While SMI Advisory Services will not be matching any further sponsorships, we still encourage you to consider sponsoring a Compassion child. There are few things you can do with $38 per month that will have the type of impact — both now and for eternity — your sponsorship will have on a child in need.

Persecuted Christians in Iraq/Iran

In late 2014, we presented an opportunity to SMI newsletter readers to join with shareholders of the SMI mutual funds in a matching giving campaign to help Christians who had been displaced by ISIS.

Our initial goal was to get donations of $25,000 in total, which would trigger the maximum $50,000 matching gift from SMI Advisory Services. Internally, our sights were set a little higher, hoping for $50,000 in donations to be matched with $50,000 for a total of $100,000.

But once again, we were blown away by the generosity of the SMI family! Total contributions from readers and shareholders came to $80,875, which when matched with the $50,000 from SMI Advisory, brought the total amount raised to a whopping $130,875!

That money was used to provide basic material needs and trauma counseling for our persecuted brothers and sisters, in addition to training pastors and staff in trauma counseling. So much damage has been done, but your generosity is helping heal some of those wounds.

Thank you to all who participated and gave — we really appreciate being able to partner together in this worthy effort!
